Aston Martin
Aston Martin is recalling 17,590 cars - most models built since late 2007 - over a counterfeit component mistakenly used in the accelerator assembly, the firm announced this evening. A Chinese supplier makes the throttle pedal and Aston Martin said it had discovered one part used counterfeit plastic material instead of the correct component from a European supplier. Aston Martin is keen to stress that there have been no instances of the part failing or any accidents as a result of the counterfeit part.

The arrival of a Mercedes MLC – a coupe version of the ML – has been clearly signalled for some time but now, with the debut of the Mercedes Concept Coupe SUV at the Beijing Motor Show, we get the first clear sight of Mercedes SUV/SAV to rival the BMW X6. The Concept Coupe SUV may be a coupe version of the Mercedes ML, but its a far more glitzy, design-led SUV than the rather boxy ML with lots of curves and contours and a surprising amount of glass. A huge statement nose with lots of bling and an oversized 3-pointed star dominate the front of the Coupe SUV, a dramatic coupe roofline, contoured flasks, big 22″ alloys and a back end that takes design cues from the new S-Class Coupe but with slim lights that extend the full width of the car.

Volvo will launch its first hybrid production cars in two years' time. The 2012 replacement for the V70 - which won't necessarily be a conventional estate - will have a premium range-topper powered by a plug-in diesel-electric powertrain. CAR's out in Sweden trying out the tech and today we drove a prototype for the new electric Volvo green car.
